Frequently Asked Questions
This isn’t just a box. It’s a place for a collar, a letter, a favorite toy, a blanket — even a folded flag. A safe space for memory, for grief, for meaning. Each one is crafted from solid hardwood, joined by hand, and finished to last for generations — because what you’re saving inside deserves nothing less.
What makes your boxes “heirloom quality”?
We use solid, furniture-grade hardwoods, such as American walnut, cherry, hard maple, and white oak. No plywood, no veneers. Each piece is handcrafted in our studio with time-honored joinery (like mitered corners with cherry or maple splines) and finished with multiple coats of satin protective finish. These are built to be passed down.
Are your boxes mass-produced?
No. Every box is made by hand, one at a time, by our small team in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. We don’t batch or outsource our work. Every spline, every lid, every engraving is done in-house with care, precision, and pride.
What are your boxes used for?
Our customers use them to hold:
- Memorial items (like ashes, photos, dog tags, or collars)
- Anniversary or wedding keepsakes
- Letters, journals, or love notes
- Baby mementos and childhood treasures
- Retirement gifts and time capsules
We’ve even made boxes for presidential gifts and military honors. Each one has a story.
Why are your prices higher than some other shops?
We aren’t competing with mass-produced or laser-cut plywood boxes. Our pricing reflects the real cost of premium materials, handcrafted joinery, and personal engraving. Each box includes hours of skilled work and years of experience — not shortcuts. If you’re trusting this box to hold something precious, it deserves to be made to last.
Can I personalize my box?
Yes. Every box includes free engraving — and we don’t charge extra for personalization. Add names, dates, quotes, coordinates, photos, designs, or meaningful phrases. Some customers even email us drawings or handwriting to be engraved. We’ll help you tell your story.
Do you offer interior trays, felt lining, or other upgrades?
Yes! You can choose to add interior trays and a lock directly from the product page before adding your box to the cart.
We also offer the following optional upgrades through a separate link after checkout — just reach out to us at christy@madtreewoodcrafts.com if you’re interested in any of these:
- Felt-lined trays in black or cream – $10 per tray
- Felt lining for the box bottom – $15
- Rush fee – $75 (ships within 3 business days)
What size is right for me?
Our most popular sizes:
- Large: 13″ x 8″ x 7.75″ – great for cards, photos, journals, and ashes
- Extra Large: 16″ x 12″ x 10″ – fits folded flags, baby books, diplomas, binders, scrapbooks, cameras, or multi-generational items
We’re happy to help if you’re unsure what size fits your needs.
Do you offer gift wrapping or message cards?
Yes — all of our keepsake boxes leave our workshop beautifully gift wrapped at no extra charge. Whether it’s being sent to you or directly to a loved one, it’s ready to be received with care.
We also offer two types of engraved message cards:
- Cardstock: Free upon request. Just leave a note in your order or email us at christy@madtreewoodcrafts.com.
- Cherry wood card: $18 — a lasting way to add a personal message. We’ll send a separate link after checkout for payment.
How should I care for my box?
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or moisture. An occasional dusting with a soft cloth will keep it looking beautiful for generations. If you ever need help with touch-up or repair, just reach out — we stand behind every box we make.
Do you accept custom orders?
Yes, we accept custom orders! If you’re looking for a specific size, design, or engraving and aren’t sure if it’s possible, feel free to email us at christy@madtreewoodcrafts.com. We’re happy to take a look and let you know if it’s something we can make for you.
