Everyone loves a clean and organized house and there’s no better time to tackle this feat than in the traditional time of spring cleaning! However, after the winter blues, it can seem like a daunting task to get the entire house sparkling again.

Here are some spring cleaning tips to help you de-clutter and deep clean.

Make a Task List Room by Room
Before you start, create a cleaning and organizing list of what needs to be done in all the rooms that need your attention. Then choose the room that is most important to you and start there.

Address Seasonal Chores
If you’ll be spending more time outdoors in the Spring, clean your grill, your patio set and your windows. Pack away winter items (flannel sheets, electric blankets, winter décor, etc.,) and launder spring/summer linens, etc., and put them out for a fresh look and feel.

Clean One Appliance at a Time
If cleaning the refrigerator, microwave, oven, and washing machine is on your list, tackle one item per day (or every few days). In this way, you can give your complete attention to that one appliance and not feel overwhelmed because others are waiting to be cleaned.

Get Inspired and Enlist Help
Invest in a book about cleaning and de-cluttering or find a TV show for tips and inspiration. Don’t be afraid to enlist your partner and kids to help but be sure to assign tasks that are age appropriate. If desired, hire a consultant who specializes in organizing and de-cluttering for a few hours of guidance and tips.

De-clutter Closets, Pantries, and Cabinets
Instead of hiding the mess behind closed doors, try de-cluttering closets, pantries, and cabinets. There may be many to do, so start with the ones that you use the most (i.e., your pantry, hallway coat closet, game closet, or master bedroom closet).

Traditionally when individuals spring clean, they sort things into four piles: Keep, Donate, Maybe, Toss. We like to add a fifth pile: Precious.

A “Precious” pile could be something as simple as your child’s first pair of socks or something as beautiful as love letters that your grandfather sent to your grandmother. Whatever it is, these mementos should be stored in a special place.
