kiln dried sawdust We thought it would be fun for Earth Day to share what we do with the ten 42-gallon bags of sawdust generated from our woodworking shop each month. In Plain City, Ohio, a local farmer stops by the shop twice a month to pick up about five bags for bedding his cattle at his family farm. We have learned that bedding choice directly influences cow comfort.

While there are many choices out there, compost, mattresses, chopped recycled newspaper, straw, hay, and sand, to name a few, sawdust does have its perks. It is an organic option with a proven track record for decreased lameness in cows and increased laying time. Additionally, since we only use kiln-dried wood, its sawdust offers high absorbency. From our workshop to a local family farm, sawdust becomes much-needed bedding.
